Snowshoeing, Canned Style

After a long summer outdoors with temperatures hitting 100+ degrees, Oregon has some of the best winter get-aways to cool down, relax and recharge. Its forests, beaches, mountains, and wildlife provide plenty of hidden gems, and our team at Canned Oregon have seasonal favorites to escape to while, of course, enjoying some wine.

Victor Panichkul, Stoller Family Estate hospitality manager, brings Canned Oregon on his trips centered around relaxation. One of his favorite activities is snowshoeing with his dog, Jamie.

“Snowshoeing is not only great cardio, but it’s also so peaceful and quiet. The snow absorbs all the sound, and you’re just engulfed in nature.”

Vic recommends Dutchman Flats Sno-Park and Virginia Meissner Sno-Park in Bend, Oregon because they are dog friendly and have warming shelters with fire pits along the way, which are perfect for enjoying a Canned Oregon beverage while admiring the views.

Vic’s Best Tips for Snowshoeing:

  • Pick your level of comfort. Vic recommends the AllTrails app to help sort suitable trails for all levels of experience. It’s also great for showing location since trail markers can get covered by snow.

  • Try before you buy. An easy and affordable way to get started with snowshoeing is renting from local outdoor retail shops.

  • Gear up. Always take gloves and wear layers and if you’re bringing your dog, make sure to get the right gear to keep their paws safe.

  • Be prepared. Bring water and snacks, snowshoeing is great exercise, but you need food and water to help you maintain your warmth.

  • Pay to play. Don’t forget to buy a snow park permit, so you don’t end up with a costly fine or ticket.

  • Treat yourself. Pack your favorite Canned Oregon as a reward to enjoy at the end of the trail!
